Events
The Friends are planning to participate in this event in 2023 so please watch this page for a schedule of events as they are planned. We start the week on the Friday evening before(8th September) when Ian Binnie will be hosting a ZOOM about the Gallipoli Campaign. Ian continues this theme with a walk in the cemetery visiting graves linked to this subject.
On Tuesday the 12th September Ian Binnie, the Education Officer for the Gallipoli Association, will lead a walk around 8 graves associated with this campaign. Meet at the Lodge at 11.00am
On Wednesday the 13th September we will be offering members of the public a chance to take part in this project to record headstone inscriptions that will then become part of a large digital map of Brandwood End. This offers a fascinating insight to the changes in style of memorials and inscriptions.
Meet at the Lodge at 10.30 till noon. Please be prompt as we will move to another area of the site.
Friday 15th September, A Lichen specialist, Shirley Hancock, will be leading 2 sessions (starting at 10.30am and then 1.30pm) to introduce people to the wonderful world of Lichen. It’s everywhere, but what do we know about it? A magnifying device would be helpful but not essential) Meet at the Lodge
Saturday 16th September 11.00am till 2.00pm Meet the Friends by the Lodge. Come and find out what we have been doing and what our future plans are. Browse some of our research. Take a stroll using one of our several maps (Some showing distance of trails), challenge your younger family members to find our hidden painted stones or take part in our Colouring competition. ‘Chatty, Chatty Brum Brum’ will be on site offering a chance to sit and chat with a cup of coffee or tea.
The Friends have produced an informative HERITAGE WALK along the main drive which points out items of interest that you may have missed and offers an insight into the history of the cemetery. We hope to also have a ‘painted stones’ trail with a challenge for younger visitors. You can download the walk from the link below, or follow it on your mobile device at any time.
