Heritage Open Event 2021

The Friends will be participating in this years Heritage Open Events programme. We will have various displays, organisations and trails available on Sunday 19th September between 1100 hrs and 1400 hrs in the cemetery but we will also have a number of walks/talks and events during the preceding week. Please watch our ‘latest news’ section on this site and also our facebook page.

The Friends have produced an informative HERITAGE WALK along the main drive which points out items of interest that you may have missed and offers an insight into the history of the cemetery. On the 19th this walk will be clearly marked, along with a ‘painted stones’ trail with a challenge for younger visitors. You can download the walk from the link below, or follow it on your mobile device at any time but on site signage will only remain for a short period.

On the 19th Doug Smith will be giving a talk on his book ‘Trams to Trenches’ and there will be historic information shedding light on a few of the people buried and remembered in Brandwood End Cemetery. Please remember that we are a Friends group and that this is a chance to ask questions about the past. We are not generally able to assist with issues/queries relating to the present day.

This is still a strange year and we are not confident that we will be allowed to engage in all our planned events as this is a BCC site and their staff and the cemetery fall under the jurisdictions of BCC , so must abide by their regulations however we assure you that we will be worth a visit and the cemetery will be open and FBEC members in attendance. We look forward to seeing you all. This is a free event.

Our quarterly litter picks start at 10am and last for just one and a half hours.  We always need volunteers who can come and help out.  Please keep an eye out on the Events page for the next litter picks.

Children are most welcome but must be accompanied by a responsible adult.  Dress appropriately for the weather and bring some gloves. Bags and pickers will be provided.  No previous experience required.
