Christmas Litter Pick – 4th December

For those of you who think there is very little litter around these days and so there is no need to come, it is only like that because of the continuing efforts of the ground staff and the Friends’ Litter Pick days.  We can’t let up the pressure on litter.   And it is a great way to get some fresh air and make new friends!

Children are most welcome to come and help out but must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Please meet at 10am at The Lodge (we finish about 11.30). Dress appropriately for the weather and bring some gloves. Bags and pickers will be provided. We hope to see you there!

As this is our pre Xmas litter pick we may go for a swift drink following this event.  Please come and join us!

Where have all the flowers gone?

Volunteers from Friends of Brandwood End Cemetery braved the winds last weekend to carry out the bi-monthly litter pick.  Due to the high winds many artificial flower arrangements, cards and items had been blown into hedgerows.  The volunteers did put many of these back but they may be on the wrong grave.  So if you are wondering where your flowers have gone this may be the reason.

Please be considerate of the environment when leaving flowers for loved ones.  Artificial flowers, wrappings and cards often get blown away and because they are not biodegradable they become litter.  Please use natural arrangements where possible.

Ivy Clearance

Ivy Clearance at Brandwood End Cemetery

Ivy is incredibly invasive and can kill trees if left unstopped.  On the weekend of the 22nd & 23rd January volunteers from Friends of Brandwood End Cemetery attacked some ivy which was wrapped around a tree and several graves.  After several hours of hard graft the graves were once again visible and the tree freed of the ivy growth.  Whilst some work is still left to do on clearing the graves of roots the area blighted by ivy looks freer and lighter.  A big thank you to the volunteers of Friends of Brandwood End Cemetery for once again helping to improve the environment for all those that visit the grounds.
