Are you after information on lost graves?

The ground staff at Brandwood End Cemetery are constantly being asked to help people find graves – much as they would like to help they really can’t.  They don’t have the information.  Since the Lodge was flooded some months ago the office for Brandwood End Cemetery has moved to Kings Norton.  But here is some information which may help >>

Or if you want to contact the Office there details can be found here >>

SHAPING THE FUTURE – CONSULTATION ON THE HERITAGE LOTTERY FUND’S STRATEGIC FRAMEWORK 2013-2019

From Carol Souter. Chief Executive:     We are delighted to announce the launch of our public consultation on the future of Lottery funding for heritage from 2013-2019. The consultation is open until 26 April 2011 and you can give us your views online at their online public survey.

The Government’s announcement of an increase in our share of Lottery good causes income from 16.7% to 20% by 2012-2013, amounting to around £50 million extra money a year, was an extremely welcome boost for the UK’s heritage. From 2013 to 2019 we will have an annual awards budget of around £300 million.

At the same time, reductions in central Government and local authority spending mean there will be significantly less public investment in heritage across the UK during the next four years.

This consultation therefore comes at a time of continued turbulence and change for many of our customers and partners. Your views are important to us and will help us decide how we can best respond.

We have set out our proposals on a range of issues, based on analysis of the emerging funding environment for heritage in the next few years, research and evaluation of the impact of our funding, and discussions with many other organisations, partners and funders. This is your opportunity to tell us:

  •
    • what we should continue doing;
    • what we may need to do differently;
    • and what new initiatives or measures could have the greatest impact.

Please register and respond at http://www.hlf.org.uk/consultation2011

by 26 April. We will report back on what you have told us later on this year and expect to publish our strategic framework for 2013-2019 in spring 2012.

We look forward to hearing from you.   A BIG thank you from Heritage Lottery Fund and from the Friends!

Where have all the flowers gone?

Volunteers from Friends of Brandwood End Cemetery braved the winds last weekend to carry out the bi-monthly litter pick.  Due to the high winds many artificial flower arrangements, cards and items had been blown into hedgerows.  The volunteers did put many of these back but they may be on the wrong grave.  So if you are wondering where your flowers have gone this may be the reason.

Please be considerate of the environment when leaving flowers for loved ones.  Artificial flowers, wrappings and cards often get blown away and because they are not biodegradable they become litter.  Please use natural arrangements where possible.
