(9) Friends of Brandwood End Cemetery | Facebook

The asset to our Facebook site is that followers are able to interact directly, message, comment and also post their beautiful photographs of the cemetery.  Many people have smart phones now so can input items of interest immediately.

These are a few of the latest photographs and thankyou Gary and Michelle for sharing them.

Seasons Greetings

On behalf of the committee of the Friends can we wish you all Seasons Greetings. We do hope that you all managed to connect with friends and loved ones in these strange times on what for most people is a special day.

Can we remind you that there is a change in opening times on Christmas Day and Boxing Day and the Cemetery will close at 1.30pm on both days. We recommend that you do check the BCC site link below to check there have been no changes.

A sad farewell.

On December 14th many members and followers of FBEC said a sad farewell to Anne Courbet, who was instrumental in forming the Friends.  Anne had been a wonderful inspiration to all of the committee and also to anyone who had a love for the cemetery. She will be sadly missed. Her funeral was well attended, as was her joyful gathering at Kings Heath Cricket club afterwards, with happy memories .

Rest in Peace Anne. As long as the Friends exist you will never be forgotten in Brandwood End.

Parking restrictions.

I noticed this evening that the newly tarmaced section from Woodthorpe road to the cemetery gates has now been fully completed with its yellow lines.  The parking of vehicles on this narrow access road has created a real challenge for lengthy herses, following vehicles and horse drawn carriages – so hopefully this will resolve the problem.

So many wind blown items.

10 volunteers today collected 10 bags of flower paper, plastic bottles, artificial flowers and smashed vases scattered around the cemetery. PLEASE SECURE ANY FLOWERS OR TREASURERS YOU MAY LEAVE ON YOUR LOVED ONES GRAVES. When we find them we have no idea where they have blown from – so the nearest grave benefits!

Can we ask again that you remove flower paper from your tributes and leave water bottles behind graves FULL, to prevent them blowing around.  We removed several black bags of empty bottles from hedge lines and shrubbery.  Thank you.

Anne Courbet

The Friends are sharing a message received from Sarah Courbet, Anne’s daughter. We all will miss Anne and our thoughts are with Sarah and the family at this time.

It is with great sadness that I share the news that my wonderful mom, Anne Courbet, passed away this week after a battle with cancer. Why am I posting on here? Because mom was the driving force behind the formation of the Friends in 2005 which she served for many years. Many of the original Committee members still serve today and mom kept an active eye on developments right until the end. She was privileged to call many members her friends and she was thrilled to see Julia, Jane, Coral, Julian, Carola and others carry on her mission to improve Brandwood End Cemetery for all to enjoy. Donations to FBEC to continue her work would be much appreciated. It is such a great thing to be a Friend: https://fbec.org.uk/about/become-a-friend/
