Alongside the above project we are also working with the Tree Officer and Bereavement Service staff to plant some suitable trees that will deal with future climate issues. We need to replenish tree stocks to maintain our Grade 2 Listed Garden status. We hope to fund this through grants and a possible ‘sponsor a tree’ campaign. In line with the high winds Saturday the cemetery gates were closed for safety reasons.
Unfortunately there were a few branches and at least one tree that have been affected again by the high winds. Luckily for us the Tree Surgeons were quick to act and have spent yet another few days in Brandwood End checking and making trees as safe as they can in these unusual conditions. Saturated ground and high winds can cause havoc.

Trees look so different during the Winter months. Bark, twigs and buds help to identify them. Join Malcolm Jacques as he revisits some of our Summer tree walk and adds a few more trees to this wonderful Winter Tree Walk.

The Tree Surgeons have been working daily in the cemetery to cut up and remove trees that were felled in the latest storms. Of the 17+ trees brought down in the winds just 2 remain awaiting removal.
Progress has been slow and meticulous to avoid unnecessary damage to graves that had so far escaped damage. Considering the initial extensive visual havoc the resulting permanent damage is far less than expected.
Please meet opposite the Lodge at 11am on Saturday 11th. We will be carrying on clearing some areas of the cemetery of self set trees and shrubs as well as clearing smaller fallen branches.
Gosh we are already nearly two weeks into the New Year. The Friends would like to wish all our supporters and followers a Prosperous and Healthy New Year, and we look forward to continue meeting you in the cemetery at various events.
