Remembrance Sunday at Brandwood End- 2015

Our thanks to everyone that supported this annual event organised by FBEC. This year close to 70 people turned out in windy and damp conditions to remember those that have given their lives in battle.

Our thanks to Rev David Fairbotham, local Councillors and all the organisations that laid wreaths but our special thanks to the Standard Bearer from The British Legion (Kings Heath Branch), our brilliant Buglers (Ludo and Oliver) who always do us proud, and of course local residents and supporters. This year our numbers were close to 70 !

Beautiful Autumn Colours

IMG_6509Autumn is once again upon us and Brandwood End Cemetery is resplendent in its colours of red, yellow and gold. Here we see pupils from a local school collecting leaves during last Autumn. Why not take the time to stroll along the avenues and take in the beautiful colours of yet another Autumn?

Early Reminder…..

This years SERVICE OF REMEMBRANCE will take place on SUNDAY 8TH NOVEMBER at the Cross of Sacrifice on the Main Drive (10.50am for 11.00am start)

IMG_7788 (800x600)Please try and support this annual event to remember those that have been lost in the name of Peace.

Friends of Brandwood End Cemetery would like to assure all our members that we will not share their details with any other organisations.

In the last few months a number of organisations and groups have taken to the airwaves and print to reassure their members that they have not been passing their details to other organisations.  FBEC can assure you that we stick rigidly to data protection and do not share any of your information with any other groups or organisations.

VJ day remembered.

Kings Heath British Legion in Station Road, Kings Heath  are holding a family day for the local community to raise awareness of the 70th anniversary of VJ Day. They want to highlight the work the Legion does for serving and ex serving personnel. As Kings Heath is the last Memorial Hall in the West Midlands they strongly believe that this date should be marked with respect and that people need to be aware of the struggle people went though during the campaign.

They will have food, stalls and a bouncing castle on site so why not pop in with the family between 12-4pm  to show your support.

Our 10th Anniversary.

I am sure you have gathered from our notice boards and this blog, that 2015 is the 10th year that FBEC have been active in Brandwood End. Unfortunately we do not have the capacity to support a  Heritage event in the cemetery this year but instead we will have displays in Kings Heath and Druids Heath Libraries during Heritage week (from the 9th September). Why not pop in and take a look?

Cherish your Churchyard.

We know Brandwood End isn’t exactly a Churchyard…..but seeing as its ‘Cherish your Churchyard’ week……..I think we can cheat a little!  We always need gardening help with weeding, hedge cutting, pruning and other projects etc.  How about starting our own special week……. ‘ Celebrate your Cemetery’ ?

Can you lend FBEC your horticultural skills?

FBEC members are responsible for maintaining the flower beds in the Civilian Garden of Remembrance in Brandwood End. The flower beds in this area are overflowing with blooms……but hidden amongst them there are many weeds! The planting in this area will be refurbished in the winter but we could do with help keeping the weeds down till then. We operate a small rota but we need more members to give a couple of hours. This can be as a regular commitment or just a one off when you have some spare time. Can you contact us via this web site or e mail to friendsofbec@gmail.com

IMG_8158IMG_8164IMG_8165We collected this bag of weeds in a few minutes as we passed through the area.

We also have a new hedge, in close proximity to this area, that needs the weeds keeping down underneath it- until the hedge is established enough to shade them out.  Please get in touch if you would be happy to spend a couple of hours enjoying this beautiful cemetery and pulling a few weeds!!
